Life Lessons/Universal Truths

February 6, 2009

This picture taken by Kevin Carter in 1994 during the Sudan Famine is an image of a sad but awakening truth. How fortunate are we to be among the lucky few in the world who have houses, clothes, and food every day. I need to remember that billions of people in the world would gladly take my place in order to have a secure life. I cannot complain or wish for a better life when so many others have so little. It is selfish to think that a life in America sucks. Basic needs like food and water are not being met for countless people in the world. Cynics would say that giving money away to charities is a waste of time, but we need to have open minds to the world around us. Humans are all alike, and we need to remember that there are others out there looking up at us.
